GB celebrates 2008 in Brazil

Master Nelson and Prof Rafael just want to share with you one of GB’s traditions, a great celebration that takes place every end of the year at the Gracie Camp in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It’s a big barbecue with belt promotions, soccer game and a lot of talk!!

The ones that you will see below on the pictures are some of our training partners and best friends, enjoy!!!Rememer that you guys are part of this big family now!!!

Barra da Tijuca, sunny Saturday, Rio de Janeiro. Perfect setting for socializing with friends. It was in this climate that happened, on Jan. 10th, the barbecue of fraternization of Gracie Barra. In the presence of the leader of the team, Carlos Gracie Jr., newly arrived from California, the fighters exchanged ideas and experiences counted in 2008.
In a corner of the dependencies of the house( Gracie Camp), Jefferson Moura, responsible for the matrix of Gracie Barra, organized the ceremony of graduation.
Soon after, it was the apex of the ceremony: the stripes and belts promotion to those who defend the colors of the GB by Brazil and the world.
One of the most excited was Murillo Neto who is responsible for Gracie Camp and would be awarded  the much-dreamed  Black Belt.
The GRACIEMAG.com attended the barbecue and prepared a gallery with some of the most striking images. Check out:

BJJ in Action: Kids Self Defense

A 9-year-old Bakersfield boy is getting a lot of attention after saving a girl from a vicious pit bull.

Drew Heredia and his female friend were walking the girl’s small dog when the pit bull attacked it. The girl tried to intervene but then the pit bull turned the attack on her.

Heredia didn’t run away but instead he jumped on the pit bull and applied a choke hold that he learned at a local Brazilian jiu-jitsu studio.

Heredia held the dog in the chokehold until an animal control officer arrived.

The girl was taken to the hospital with numerous puncture wounds. She and her dog are expected to recover.
