Gracie Barra Encinitas presents: 10 foods that cannot lack in your menu


Few know the foods that we must consume to keep a healthful life. Certain vitamins and nutrients capable to improve the functioning of its organism, if ingested exist frequently. Already scientific studies had been made had proven that these substances are capable to prevent illnesses

 

But do not think that they are foods expensive.

We, as BJJ practitioner and adepts of a healthful life, must know of this:

 

1- The mighty Apple

2- The essential Oat

Georges St Pierre training at Gracie Barra

A recent visit to the Gracie Barra HQ in Rio de Janeiro saw some unexpected visitors: Georges St Pierre, Alvaro Romano, Martin Rooney and Kid Peligro. GSP who was here recently is back training at GB while helping good friend Gustavo “Ximu” Machado prepare for an upcoming fight in Canada.

GSP went round and round against some of the Gracie Barra’s best on that day and let me assure you all that he is the real deal in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

“B in BJJ”

Hello Dear Students,

In this edition of “The ‘B’ in BJJ” we will talk about one of Brazil’s great sports idols, three-time Formula One Champion race-car driver, Ayrton Senna (March 21, 1960 – May 1, 1994).

In Brazil, the most popular form of auto racing is Formula One. On Sundays, fans watch Formula One races, which take place in different countries around the world, on TV. Once a year, Brazilians get to see Formula One take place live in Sao Paulo, at the “Autodromo de Interlagos” in Sao Paulo. For years, the driver they were all cheering for was Ayrton Senna.

More than an idol, Senna was a national hero for the most of the Brazilians.

“I remember the time when Senna was racing for his second and third title and everybody used to get together with the families and friends on Sundays to have lunch and watch the race. Every place you were there was always a TV playing the Formula One. My uncle use to lock himself in his room just to watch the race without anybody to distract his attention. When I was a kid, I was on vacation with my family at the hotel’s swimming pool area, and all the guests requested the hotel to put a TV in the pool area for us to watch the race—nobody wants to leave the pool area but watching the race was more important.

“My personal opinion is that the race itself is magnificent but Senna was more that just a racer. Having an athlete competing for your country and bringing so many victories almost every Sunday for all the Brazilians it was a glory. For millions of people going through a tough life, battling all week to support their families, battling against the social inequality and struggling day by day to be happy the Sundays were a day that together with the Senna’s victories we all had the “good winning sensation feeling” in our hearts, and with that we all had our will to win and to go after your dreams boosted to achieve our goals in life. Rich or poor, ugly or beautiful, black or white, man or women, Ayrton Senna da Silva was a Idol for all of us. We all know that if you are a famous person you will always have somebody with a negative comment about you—but with Senna it was different. I never met a Brazilian in my life who did not like Senna.”

In Formula One he raced for Toleman, Lotus, MacLaren and Williams. And in “Formula One’s Society”, a question that seems to never be answered is: Who is the best pilot of all the times?
Miguel Fangio (Argentine)On the early days of F-1 and not so much technology? Ayrton Senna (Brazil) with his great talent? Or Michael Schumacher (Germany) breaking all the Records? Well if Senna did not have a fatal accident in the San Marino Grand Prix maybe we would have the answer—but I’m sure that if you ask any Brazilian you can imagine what the answer is.

Besides been a champion inside the tracks Senna was also a champion outside it. He was a reserved person and even shy.
